What properties should milling cutter materials have?

During cutting, due to deformation and friction, the milling cutter bears a lot of pressure and high temperature. The requirements that should be met as a milling cutter material are:
1. High hardness and wear resistance, i.e. harder and more resistant to wear than the workpiece material; It has high wear resistance, which prevents tool wear and prolongs its service life.
2. Sufficient strength and toughness to withstand the impact and vibration during cutting, and to avoid edge collapse and fracture; During the cutting process, the milling cutter must withstand a large impact force, so the material of the milling cutter must have high strength, otherwise it is prone to fracture and damage.
3. High heat resistance (thermal stability), which means being able to maintain hardness, wear resistance, strength, and toughness at high temperatures; The milling cutter generates a large amount of heat during the cutting process, especially at high cutting speeds where the temperature is high. Therefore, the milling cutter material should have good heat resistance, which can maintain high hardness at high temperatures and have the ability to continue cutting. This property with high temperature hardness is also known as thermal hardness or red hardness.
4. Good craftsmanship, such as forging, heat treatment, grinding, etc., to facilitate the manufacturing of milling cutters;
5. Economy, i.e. economic effectiveness.
